FAO’s Committee on Agriculture opened its thirtieth session in Rome. Members discussed how science and innovation can improve food and farming systems. Topics included soil health, water shortages, plastics in agriculture and antimicrobial resistance. The committee also examined climate resilience, rural poverty and One Health.
FAO said innovation is not only about new technology. It can also mean better policies, stronger institutions and useful partnerships. More than 130 members belong to the committee, which usually meets every two years. Its advice helps shape FAO’s work on agriculture and nutrition. The 2026–2027 theme is Innovation for Food Security. Farmers and consumers should see practical results.
