ESA announced plans for a total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026. During totality, the Moon would completely cover the Sun for a short time. Northern Spain was expected to offer excellent views. ESA planned a free public event in León with local partners. The programme was set to include talks, experiments, and family activities.
ESA said certified eclipse glasses would be available while supplies lasted. These glasses were designed to protect eyes during the partial phases. Regular sunglasses were not safe for looking at the Sun. People outside León were invited to watch ESA's English broadcast from home. The plan combined clear safety guidance with the excitement of space science.
