In October, NASA invited people to send their names to Titan with its Dragonfly mission. The names will travel on a small chip aboard the spacecraft. People who join can receive a digital boarding pass. The pass is a souvenir, not a ticket for a person to fly. Titan is Saturn's largest moon, far from Earth.
Under that plan, Dragonfly is scheduled to launch in 2028 and arrive in 2034. It will fly between different places on Titan. Scientists want to study its environment and the chemical ingredients connected with life's beginnings. At that time, the aircraft was still being built. Sending a name offers a simple way to feel involved in a complex scientific journey.
