NASA is inviting people to help check information from space through a new online project. Artifact InSPECtor uses data from the Euclid telescope. Volunteers learn to spot signals that do not come from real stars or galaxies. Reflected light and problems with equipment can create these false signals. Finding them helps scientists separate useful information from errors.
Artificial intelligence already helps with this work, but it does not always identify errors correctly. Human checks can help improve the computer tools. People of different ages can join using a phone, tablet or computer. They receive guidance before checking the data. Their work can support research into distant galaxies and the universe's expansion.
