A NASA feature published in September uses space images to explain Earth's seasons. The pictures come from the EPIC camera aboard the DSCOVR spacecraft. They were taken in 2023 and 2024, not this year. The camera watches the sunlit side of our planet. Across the pictures, continents seem to move north or south. Earth's tilt creates this changing view.
Earth also looks slightly smaller in some images. That happens because the spacecraft was farther away when it took them. It does not mean the planet became smaller. EPIC takes pictures every few hours and has collected data for over a decade. Its observations help researchers study clouds, plants, snow, and other features across the whole planet.
