Scientists have studied 27 newly discovered icy objects beyond Neptune. They used the Hubble and Webb space telescopes together. Hubble recorded visible light, while Webb measured infrared light. This helped the team compare the objects' colours and sizes. These small, faint bodies travel around the Sun. They can offer clues about the materials that helped build planets long ago.
The researchers found fewer small objects than expected. Their colours were also similar to those of larger objects. Scientists had thought many crashes would change the surfaces of the smaller bodies. The new results suggest a different story. Perhaps crashes happen less often, or the objects keep their original surface materials. Researchers are still investigating.
