Learning a language becomes more meaningful when progress receives clear recognition. In Osaka, learners of Vietnamese received certificates at a ceremony on 18 October. They had taken a computer-based examination using Vietnam's six-level framework for foreign learners. This was Osaka's first test in that format under the framework. The event brought together teachers, candidates and representatives of Vietnamese organisations in Japan. Successful candidates received certificates matching their assessed language ability.
One Osaka University student, Matsuoka Reina, achieved Level Five and hopes to connect people from the two countries. Organisers see the examination as more than a record of academic results. It can encourage further study and support communication at work and in education. For Vietnamese families abroad, language learning also helps younger generations maintain connections with their cultural roots.
