Visitors to Bau Truc's first Cham pottery festival could do more than admire finished pots. The event opened in Ninh Phuoc Commune, Khanh Hoa, on 10 October, celebrating a craft passed through generations. Its programme combined cultural ceremonies with opportunities to learn directly from artisans. Local organisers described pottery as both useful household objects and a record of community memories, customs and identity. Preserving the craft therefore involves preserving knowledge too.
Scheduled from 10 to 12 October, the festival included a pottery exhibition and a day-in-the-life experience as a potter. Visitors could also try brocade weaving, explore virtual tours and discover local food. A temple-opening ritual honoured the figure credited with teaching the craft to the community. The broader goal was to connect tourism with preservation and encourage younger people to continue traditions. These skills belong beyond display cases.
