Forests in southeastern Poland are changing colour as cooler weather arrives. A Landsat 9 satellite picture captured the scene on October 8. NASA shared it on October 19. The image shows Bieszczady National Park, where beech trees cover many slopes. Red and gold leaves stand out beside grasslands higher in the mountains.
Shorter days and lower temperatures make the trees produce less of their green colouring. Other colours then become easier to see. The high grasslands have also lost their summer green and now look brown. These mountains provide homes for bears, lynx and European bison. Space offers a wide view of these seasonal changes. People on the ground see only smaller areas.
