A Chinese man kidnapped at age three has been admitted directly to a combined master's and doctoral program. Peng Wenle was taken from outside his parents' shop in 2008. The family searched for three years. In early 2011, a university student saw the father's online photos, recognized a similar child in a village, and contacted him. Police found Wenle in Jiangsu, and a DNA test confirmed his identity.
The kidnapper's family had raised Wenle and sent him to school. After returning home, his parents let him stay in touch with the woman who had raised him. In 2022, he scored 632 out of 750 on China's university entrance exam and entered Wuhan University's computer science school. He graduated in June 2026 and will continue there in a combined master's and doctoral program. Wenle has thanked his parents for never giving up and now helps other families with missing children.
