Five Southeast Asian sweets are on a new list of the world's 100 best desserts. Food website TasteAtlas published it. The highest is pisang goreng from Indonesia, at number 14. It is sliced banana dipped in batter and deep-fried until golden. Street stalls sell it, and modern versions often add toppings like chocolate or ice cream.
Thailand has two desserts on the list. Khanom khrok is a small coconut pancake made in an iron pan. Mango sticky rice is sweet rice in coconut milk, served with fresh mango. Indonesia's klepon is a green rice ball filled with palm sugar. The Philippines appears with leche flan, a sweet caramel custard. It came to the islands when Spain ruled them. Today it is part of many celebrations.
