Small moths in the kitchen cupboard often arrive hidden in dry food. An insect expert says they often come home in grains, dried fruit, and nuts. The first step is to throw away any food with webs, larvae, or adult moths. Take the rubbish outside.
The larvae can chew through plastic bags, paper, and thin cardboard. Store dry food in strong glass or plastic containers with tight lids. Clean the shelves with white vinegar or hot, soapy water. Pay special attention to cracks and corners, where eggs may be laid. Dry food that seems fine but may be affected can go in the freezer. About a week of freezing can kill hidden eggs and larvae.
