People in Tokyo waited four hours for a famous meat bun from Osaka. On September 10, hundreds lined up at a department store from 8 a.m. The brand, 551 HORAI, has an 80-year history. Each bun costs 250 yen, about 1.60 dollars. It appears in Tokyo only at an autumn food fair.
The company has about 60 stores, all in the Kansai region. It sells 170,000 buns a day, and every bun is wrapped by hand. The dough is made at a bakery in Osaka. It must reach each store in under 150 minutes. A longer trip changes the smell and texture of the dough.
