Paying for things in China is getting easier for foreign visitors. The tech company Tencent has launched a mobile payment app called TenPayGo. It lets travelers link credit cards or digital wallets from their home countries. They can then pay at tens of millions of shops, restaurants, and attractions. The app supports seven international card networks, including Visa and Mastercard.
Users can register with an email address instead of a Chinese phone number. That matters because many services in China require a local number. The app does more than payments. In Shenzhen, visitors can use its QR code to ride buses and the metro. It can also translate menus instantly using artificial intelligence. Tourism to China is growing quickly. The country recorded 22.9 million foreign arrivals in the first half of 2026, up 20 percent from a year earlier.
