Singapore plans to open a new home for the arts near Orchard Road by 2030. The building will have a 1,000-seat theater and a modern art museum. It will also have shops, offices, and a rooftop stage with plants around it. Japanese architect Kengo Kuma designed the 190-meter-tall building.
Why does the size of the theater matter? Most theaters in the city have either 600 seats or 2,000. A theater with 1,000 seats fills the gap between them. Local and international arts groups will be able to stage bigger shows. The art museum will cover three floors. A property company bought the land in 2022. It is giving the theater and museum to Singapore as a gift.
