Vietnam's huge new airport is getting ready for its first tests. Trial operations at Long Thanh Airport, in the south of the country, are planned for October. The passenger terminal is in its final construction phase. The terminal project began in August 2023 and is now more than 76 percent complete. It is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
Workers are finishing the roof over the central section and building check-in counters. Escalators are already in place there. The terminal will have a self-service area where passengers drop off their own bags. Once the airport opens, biometric check-in will let travelers complete several steps before a flight by themselves. Commercial flights in the airport's first phase are scheduled to begin in December 2026. To meet that deadline, the operator has told contractors to add resources and watch progress more closely.
