More office workers in Ho Chi Minh City are taking cleaning jobs after work. Mai Tram, 24, works in marketing during the day. Three evenings a week, she cleans homes through an online platform. Each three-hour shift pays more than 200,000 dong, about eight dollars. The extra work brings in around four million dong a month.
Tram uses the money for language courses and professional training. Together with her salary, it also covers rent and bills. She likes that the job is not mentally tiring. As soon as the cleaning is done, she is free to go and receives her pay immediately. A staff member at a cleaning app says its applicants are getting younger, and many are under 45. They include office staff, teachers, and students. They usually take three to five shifts a week, in the evenings or on days off. Each shift lasts two to three hours.
