The NASA/ESA Hubble telescope captured a new image of a strange galaxy. The galaxy is called NGC 4698, and it lies 55 million light-years away. It looks calm, like our own Milky Way. But the stars nearest its center do not turn with the rest. Stars near the middle rotate at a right angle to the disc.
Why is this galaxy so out of sync? Scientists think gas came in from outside long ago. The new gas then formed stars that spin in a different direction. The galaxy may also have joined with a smaller one in the past. At its heart sits a giant black hole, and it is still growing.
