Viet Nam will welcome the King and Queen of Thailand for a State visit from 14 to 16 September. King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida are coming at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam. The trip is special because 2026 marks fifty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is also the King's first visit to Viet Nam since he took the throne. He visited Viet Nam in 1992 and 1997 as Crown Prince.
The two neighbours upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2025. They now aim to lift two-way trade to 25 billion US dollars. Thailand is Viet Nam's largest trading partner within ASEAN and a major investor. The visit is expected to strengthen political trust and boost cooperation in trade, culture and tourism.
