The International Organization for Migration says at least 46,000 people have fled their homes after fighting resumed in southwestern Yemen last week. The clashes between Houthi forces and pro-government troops have spread quickly, and the agency warns that the number of displaced people is still rising. Houthi fighters have taken control of Mokha, a strategic port on the Red Sea, prompting many residents to leave overnight. Entire villages in parts of Taiz province have reportedly been emptied as the front line moves closer.
IOM chief Amy Pope said many families are now fleeing for the second or third time, often with very little left. A vital supply road between Mokha and Taiz has been cut, putting host communities under growing pressure. According to the World Health Organization, only 60 percent of Yemen's health facilities are fully operational. Hospitals are struggling with a surge of trauma patients while emergency stocks of aid remain severely depleted.
