Last month was the hottest August the world has ever recorded. The surface of the sea also reached its highest temperature so far. Weather experts say a climate pattern called El Niño made the heat stronger. Western Europe had heatwaves during the month. Countries like France and the United Kingdom also faced a serious drought.
Big rivers, such as the Rhine and the Danube, had very low water. The heat also helped create 19 tropical storms around the world. Scientists say the ten warmest Augusts have all happened since 2016. The air was about 1.65 degrees warmer than in the time before factories. World leaders will discuss the climate at a large meeting in Turkey in November.
