The World Health Organization has given Dr Vanessa Kerry an important new job. She is now the Special Envoy for Health Resilience. Resilience means the ability to keep working in hard times. Before this, she was WHO's first envoy for climate change and health. She will now work with governments, development partners, civil society and private companies. Her goal is stronger health services and funding that lasts.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the appointment is a natural next step in her work. He said her work on climate and health built support for stronger health systems. Dr Kerry said a strong health system must be built over time, not crisis by crisis. Countries need to invest in health workers, stable money and basic facilities. She hopes to support plans that each country leads and owns.
