The UN food agency FAO has opened a new office for fishing science in Split, Croatia. The office will help six countries around the Adriatic Sea work together. They will share data and protect fish in their shared waters. The head of FAO visited Croatia for the opening ceremony. He thanked the country for hosting the new office.
Climate change and too much fishing put sea life under pressure. FAO says countries got good results when they followed science together. The total weight of fish groups in the sea grew by about 25 percent. The share of overfished groups fell from 87 percent to 52 percent. The new office wants to keep this progress going.
