South Sudan is preparing its first system to monitor progress in the education sector. UNESCO supported a four-day meeting in Juba from 18 to 21 August. About 30 people from government, UN agencies, NGOs and civil society joined the meeting. They reviewed work under the General Education Strategic Plan for 2023–2027.
The plan lists the country's main education priorities. However, there has been no single system for tracking progress. Participants mapped current projects and found areas that still need support. The new tool should help officials measure results and identify gaps more clearly. They also discussed leadership, coordination, skills and local ownership. The group agreed on actions and a timeline for building the monitoring system.
