UNICEF said July 2026 was Ukraine’s worst month for child casualties since April 2022. Seventeen children were killed and 166 were injured, according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. That figure was 49 per cent higher than the previous month. The casualties reflect children killed or injured during attacks and the continuing risks of conflict.
On 21 August, an attack on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih killed at least 16 people. More than 140 people were injured, including 23 children. A separate strike reportedly killed three children in Mykolaiv. Since the war escalated, more than 3,900 children have been killed or injured across Ukraine. These figures show the continuing danger children face during attacks. Families remain vulnerable as violence reaches civilian areas.
