Vietnam has approved a plan to send 1,500 citizens abroad on full scholarships by 2035. The government wants to train experts in strategic technologies, the advanced fields it sees as vital to growth. The places include 100 undergraduates, 400 master's students, 500 doctoral candidates and 500 postdoctoral researchers. The numbers may change with training needs and the state budget.
Master's applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree with excellent results. PhD applicants need a master's score of at least 8.0 out of 10. Recipients will study at universities ranked among the world's top 500 in their subject. Selection will be nationwide, and the criteria and results will be made public. Funding will come mainly from the state budget. Study abroad is due to begin in 2027 and continue until 2035.
