UNESCO's leader, Khaled El-Enany, visited Lebanon for the first time in August 2026. He met President Joseph Aoun and other members of the government. They talked about schools, science, culture and news. UNESCO and Lebanon also signed a new agreement for teamwork until 2029.
A grant of one million dollars will help Lebanon make better plans for schools. UNESCO's emergency support for education in Lebanon now reaches 1.8 million dollars. Since 2023, it has trained over 4,000 teachers and reached more than 10,000 students. El-Enany also visited Tyre, an old city on the World Heritage list. He announced 100,000 dollars to check damage and protect the ancient site.
