South Sudan will hold its first national elections soon. But a UN team warns that the country is very dangerous now. Fighting has started again in many areas. More than 400 ceasefire violations happened between August 2025 and January 2026. The team says new serious crimes against people could happen if the violence does not stop.
The peace deal from 2018 is almost half have not been carried out. The army and police forces are still divided into different groups. Many people cannot take part in choosing their leaders. The UN team says elections need safety protections first. Without real talks between all groups, the vote could make fighting worse instead of bringing peace.
