Violence in Yemen has risen again, with at least 17 deaths recorded since the start of August. On 7 August a missile struck a camp for displaced families, wounding six people including a child. Two days later an attack on a port killed three workers. A strike on a ship on 11 August killed four crew members. The United Nations human rights chief called the pattern alarming.
Yemen has lived through crisis since 2011, and the effects reach almost every household. About 18 million people do not have enough food. Aid groups say each new attack pushes markets and transport further out of reach. Relief teams struggle to plan when routes change weekly. The United Nations is urging all sides to halt the fighting. Civilians, it warns, carry the heaviest cost of a war that has lasted more than a decade.
