Vietnam Post has launched a mobile service called Pottel for foreign visitors. Travellers can buy a SIM card and go online soon after landing. Staff sell the cards at post offices and airports. The packages suit different trip lengths and different budgets. Many tourists rely on the Internet for maps, hotel bookings and calls home.
Pottel does not build towers of its own. It rents network capacity from VNPT, a large state company. Vietnam Post handles the brand, the shops and customer service. Five similar operators already sell SIM cards here, so competition is tight. In 2023 those small operators held only 2.1 percent of all subscribers. The company hopes tourists will value simple prices and clear instructions. Rivals may answer with cheaper data bundles.
