Vietnam's government warns of a strong El Nino weather pattern. This weather pattern can cause drought and salty water in rivers. Officials ask provinces in the south and center to plan for the worst case. El Nino may stay strong until early summer 2027.
The rainy season could end early this year. Rivers may carry less fresh water than before. Salty seawater could reach further inland than usual. Farmers might not have enough water for rice and fruit trees. The ministry also warns of heavy rain and floods in some areas. Local leaders must store extra water in lakes and dams now. They should also check that dams stay safe during storms.
