NASA asked people worldwide to design wheels for moon vehicles. Five teams tested their ideas in Houston on July 31, 2026. Daniel Bloomfield, an Australian engineer, and his son Isaac won. Their wheel uses soft material that bends around rocks. It has a special surface to grip the ground. The winning vehicle wheel works well in tests.
The challenge received 128 designs from 49 countries. NASA wants wheels that can travel far on the moon. The moon has dust, extreme cold and heat, and rough terrain. Good wheels will help astronauts explore more areas. NASA may test the winning wheels in special chambers. These chambers copy moon conditions for realistic tests.
