A strong earthquake hit western Colombia last week. The earthquake was 7.4 magnitude. More than 300 people died in the disaster. Around 4,400 people were injured. The earthquake destroyed over 26,500 homes. More than 186,000 people were affected by the damage. Many schools were damaged too.
The United Nations is helping people in Colombia now. The World Food Programme wants to give food to 100,000 people. They need 23 million dollars for three months of aid. Last Sunday, more than 2,000 people received food in two cities. UN workers say people will need help for many months. The recovery will take a long time.
