Very hot weather can make work, travel and study harder. It can also be dangerous, especially for older people, babies and people with some health conditions. A heat plan begins before the hottest hours. Check an official weather warning, prepare drinking water and think about the coolest room or public place you can use.
During the day, stay in the shade and avoid hard activity at the hottest time. Light clothes can help the body release heat. Fans may feel comfortable, but they are not always enough in extreme heat. Check on relatives who live alone, and get medical help quickly if someone becomes confused, faints or has very hot skin.
